Deus Ex: Human Revolution has many influences; Cyberpunk from Blade Runner, intellectual concepts from philosopher Michel Foucault, and conspiracy theories ranging from The Illuminati, Area 51 and the Knights of Templar.

The Illuminati a word meaning enlightened are actually suposed to be an ancient group of satanists. Most people think of the Bavarian Illuminati a group formed in May 1, 1776 as a secret society that controlled the Bavarian government from behind the throne.

Area 51 is a test sight for experimental air craft. There is how ever a lot of people who believe that it is where USA testing on Aliens from Roswell go on.

Knights of Templar a short name for the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon were supposed to be a sacred order of Christians during the Crusades official sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church. How ever they went rogue against the crown and began committing what we would call war crimes. No one knows what happened to them though there are a lot of theories.

Michel Foucault (bellow) was a French Philospher who lived 1926 to 1984.

Foucault used the term apparatus (dispositif) for the various institutional, physical and administrative mechanisms and knowledge structures, which enhance and maintain the exercise of power within the social body.

Art imitates life and vise-versa and also in the form of Deus Ex "The arts of existance was also a part of his philoshepy as Foucault defines 'techniques of the self' or 'arts of existence' as 'those reflective and voluntary practices by which men not only set themselves rules of conduct, but seek to transform themselves, to change themselves in their singular being, and to make of their life into an oeuvre that carries certain aesthetic values and meets certain stylistic criteria.

Philosophy, Conspiracies and UNATCO Info

In Deus Ex series and most Cyberpunk stories, the storyline reflects the real-world troubles such as politics, nature, the mindset about ones self, and the future of the human race. For an example UNATCO is reminiscent of the Patriot Act taking away your rights, to protect them."Nihil aliud scit necessitas quam vincere","Necessity knows nothing else but victory", UNATCO Motto.

"Being a soldier isn't just following orders, it's following those orders in the service of a higher cause. When that cause is betrayed, we're not soldiers anymore, just pieces on a chess board dying for the wrong reason." - Quote from DE.

"The human being created civilization not because of willingness but of a need to be assimilated into higher orders of structure and meaning." - Morpheus an intelligent computer, a DE Quote.

Contains DE1 Spoilers

United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) is the "world police" a term used by many to describe the USA (though not always wanted or liked). In 2052 the main character of DE, discovers that a terror bombing attack on the Liberty Island HQ was actually perpetrated by UNATCO them selves! They did it to reduce support for the NSF (National Secessionist Forces) and its allies. Watch Fahrenheit 9/11 for a look into some comparisons between the fiction and today. They were funded by the Majestic 12 a group fighting the Illuminati. The NSF are controlled by the Illuminati , who many believe are based off the Freemasons and you can see two Freemasons symbols in the trailer for DE:HR.

MJ-12 try to control the world from behind the scenes and is based off a absurd conspiracy theory that U.S. President Harry S Truman started a group to investigate UFO activity after Roswell where people believe that an Alien Ship crash landed in 1947.

DE:HR is the events leading up to the formation of UNATCO.

Todays post is on Transhumanism

H+

Transhumanism (abbreviated as H+) is the general theme behind DE3. In todays reality it is an international intellectual and cultural movement called WTA, that works towards fundamentally transforming the human condition by developing and making widely available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities.

WTA wrote:
Over the past few years, a new paradigm for thinking about humankind's future has begun to take shape among some leading computer scientists, neuroscientists, nanotechnologists and researchers at the forefront of technological development. The new paradigm rejects a crucial assumption that is implicit in both traditional futurology and practically all of today's political thinking. This is the assumption that the "human condition" is at root a constant. Present-day processes can be fine-tuned; wealth can be increased and redistributed; tools can be developed and refined; culture can change, sometimes drastically; but human nature itself is not up for grabs.

For a lot on new info on Transhumanisim in today's emerging world there is a magazine called H+ Magazine.

Not mentioned in the trailers, interviews, ect is Posthumanism.

"Humanism may be coming to an end as humanism transforms itself into something one must helplessly call posthumanism" - Quote from theorist in the academic study of literature, Ihab Hassan.

N. Katherine Hayles author of How We Became Posthuman: Virtual Bodies in Cybernetics, Literature and Informatics. If you go HERE you can read the pro-log of the book!

The Illuminati:

The Illuminati also known as the "enlightened ones," from the original Latin was first envisioned on May 1, 1776 by Bavarian born Adam Weishaupt.

The Order of the Illuminati begun as five members, but later on developed chapter houses called Masonic Lodges and is believed to be ten thousand members by the end of it ten year tenner. They were a secret society made from the elite businessmen that has spawned countless conspiracy theories; From Freemason world domination, to the New World Order, the Kennedy Assassination, the belief that their order didn't end, and many others. They are known to be involved in Satanism. Not the "I don't believe in god" kind, the Satan worship kind.

The Freemasons:

The Freemasons, an organisation my family has been involved in for centuries (not me), is an all-male fraternal order mixed up in ritual, and controlling New Scotland Yard (true). They will protect their families with all the power they have, thoughthey will curse member's entire families if they are done wrong by even one male member.

Their symbol depicts a Square and Compasses that shows their origins in stonemasonry.

Regius Manuscript is the oldest text made by the order from 1390 well before the Order of the Illuminati. When they actually started is open to conjecture. Though I'm sure the higher ups know.

That said there was a strong link between both groups, and that gives us writers a lot of cool material for Cyberpunk fiction!

Some of the popular conspiracies include:

New World Order is said to be small group of the world's elite who conspire to control the planet. They use people like the President as a smoke screen for who is really behind things. Elections, freedom of choice, and history are nothing but illusions in their grander plan.

To further boost the strength of the NWO Theory Winston Churchill used the phrase New world Order in many of his speeches.

Another organisation that conspiracy theorists have come up with is a link between the masons and the Knights of Templar.

One thing I can't explain, even with the inside knowledge I have; Is why the Freemasons "All seeing Eye" an eye open in the middle of a triangle is featured on the US One dollar bill? I've seen this symbol on a book my grandfather left me. It is also on the symbol of the New World Order.
